Our 1st Girl Scout meeting was a success!
We have 22 very excited Brownies ready to change the world!
We've decided to start this blog to help communicate and share what our girls' learned in the meetings.
Sitting in our Brownie Circle -
It's our special place where we can come together to share thoughts and ideas and make decisions and plans for our troop.
In Brownies, there are 3 Journeys that our girls will go through. Each Journey has it's own theme and badges to earn. Amy and I have decided to begin this year with
"Brownie Quest - It's Your World, Change It!". Our girls dove right into the Quest and are on their way to discovering the 1st of 3 keys.
The 1st step to finding the 1st key was to discover their own special skills, talents and qualities that they bring to the troop. We went around our Brownie circle and each girl named 1 thing about themselves that they're proud of. We wrote their names and talents on stars and posted them on a presentation board. We'll have that board at our meetings that we'll refer back to and will aid in a visual of all their talents.

We also talked about their vest and what each of the badges mean. You can find a full description on page 26 of their Brownie handbook.
And the girls got to vote on what Troop Crest they want to represent them!
The winner was: White Rose, which stands for New Beginnings
We learned a lot of Girl Scout and Brownie traditions... starting with the Girl Scout Quiet Sign ;)
But the favorite was the Girl Scout Sign and handshake!
Our 2nd step to finding the 1st key was to learn the Girl Scout Law. The law is long so we divided it up into 11 parts that were hidden around the room. The girls linked up with a partner in search of the law. Once they found it, they came back to our Brownie circle and they read their part of the law with their partner.
By doing this, they learned another important tradition of being a Girl Scout Brownie: E.L.F.

Because of time, we didn't get to go over page 50 of the Brownie Quest book. This page is recapping the values of the Girl Scout Law... If your Brownie would like to complete it at home that would be great!
The girls divided up into groups for their craft. For this 1st craft, we thought it would be best to have them make a sign of GS Promise and Law.
Saying the GS Promise and Law will be apart of our opening ceremony at every meeting.

And to complete the final step to finding the 1st key, they were given homework... It's to talk about the Girl Scout Law with their own families and then write what each family member's special quality or talent is and to write it on the star that was in their handouts.
The girls were encouraged to decorate their star as much as they'd like or even create their own star... The sky's the limit! Be creative and have fun with it!
For our next meeting, it's important that the girls bring their family star. We'll talk about each star in our Brownie circle and then they will have earned their 1st badge!!
