On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, 20 of our Brownies participated in delivering meals to seniors in Dallas county through VNA - Meals on Wheels.
"VNA delivers nutritious, freshly prepared hot meals to over 4,000 Dallas County residents Monday through Friday. These individuals are the hidden hungry – they are homebound and unable to access resources like food banks and grocery stores. With Texas having the 7th highest rate of hunger among seniors in the nation, it is easy to understand why supporting VNA is critical for our community."
Our girls were very excited to deliver meals!
They each donated a box of Girl Scout Cookies and gave one to each client along the route.
After the deliveries were complete, we went back to the VNA Haggerty Center for a tour of the kitchen and learned other ways VNA helps Dallas residents.

That was one of their favorite parts to the tour... And the fact that they had to wear hairnets was an added bonus!!

VNA also offers their Pet Program to clients that are recipient or Meals on Wheels -
"Pet ownership can be a tremendous benefit for the elderly, particularly for those who live alone. A pet can reduce stress, increase social interaction and alleviate feelings of loneliness. Still, pets require care, and some seniors need a little extra help to keep their animal companions happy and healthy. That's why VNA Meals on Wheels isn't just for people anymore. Beginning in 2013 VNA added pet food delivery to the services VNA Meals on Wheels offers to its clients."
