Over the Christmas break, Tula and Charlotte (and Benjamin) delivered all of the canned food the troop had collected to the North Texas Food Bank.
During the visit, they got to tour the facility and were very amazed at how much food is brought in and distribution to Dallas residents in need.
Things they learned:
- People don't go to the North Texas Food Bank to get food. It is distributed out by other organizations/satellite agencies.
- Sacks of food are taken to schools on Friday afternoons so that kids, whom need additional nutrition, can take food home for the weekend.
- The NTFB gives out A LOT of Peanut Butter and Tuna because of the high protein content!
- People can volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank starting at 10 years old.
- For people younger than 10yrs., the best thing they can do is to spread the word about the North Texas Food Bank and host food drives.
- The NTFB has a program similar to Meals on Wheels. They deliver hot nutritious meals to residents in need.
- They are always in need of food! Every can helps!
