February 2nd Meeting Recap + Homework Assignment due 2/23

As always, they girls had a very busy and fun meeting yesterday!

We began by talking about our Journey Quest and how they are in search of the 2nd key: The Connect Key. 

They reviewed the steps they've taken thus far: 

1. Connect as a Team - Created a Brownie Team Agreement (which they were given a copy of yesterday - To be placed in Brownie Guide Book!) 
2. Connect at Home - Created/Committed to a Healthy-Living Family Activity (Completed over the Christmas break.)

and then yesterday, we began #3 by learning how to Connect with our Community. 

We looked at the Circles of Caring map in the Brownie Quest book and discovered what each circle represents: 

• "Me" in the the very center - During our very 1st meeting, we learned what each of their talents are and how they can each contribute their skills and talents to our Brownie Team. 
• The Yellow Circle represents Family. Over the Christmas Break, each Brownie came up with a Healthy-Living Family Activity to share with their family to show them how much they care and love them. 
• The Green Circle represents their Girl Scout Family. They created a Brownie Team Agreement which promised how they would support and respect each other. 
• The Pink Circle represents people in the community that care and love them: Friends, Teachers, Church, Firemen and Policemen were some of the examples the girls came up with. 
• The Orange Circle represents the world. 

The girls were told that each circle is important and that throughout Brownies, they will continue to explore ways to use their talents to care for and support each circle. 

Then they got to further explore the Pink Circle by visiting the Fire Department!! 

That was definitely the highlight of the day!!!!

Amy and I had appropriately requested a Station Tour through the Fire Department website and received a confirmation... But our arrival surprised them nonetheless. ;) 

However...  the Lieutenant and all of the Firemen were EXTREMELY gracious and kind to all 20+ of us! I think it brightened their day to see such excitement on all of their precious faces!

 Inside the bedroom of the station - the beds fold up like Murphy Beds. 

 A lot of great questions being asked!

 They offered each girl to climb up into the fire truck and also into the driver's seat. 

The HAPPY crew!! It was an amazing visit!  

Amy and I decided to take this opportunity to combine what they've learned in their Journey Quest and combine it with earning their Safety Badge. We've paired up with the American Heart Association to help educate people over the age of 50 about the warning signs of a heart attack. 

The AHA's campaign is - "Don't Die of Doubt"

The girls were given this HOMEWORK and told to complete it by the next meeting on February 

23rd.  (Complete 1, 2 and 6 for homework)

1. Visit www.DontDieOfDoubt.com to explore the importance of heart health. 
2. List on the back of their handout the 4 signs of a heart attack. 
3. (Done!) Make a personal first aid kit
4. (Done!) Talk to a First Responder about the importance of the 911 emergency system. 
5. (Done!) Watch a Don't Die of Doubt Commercial or a Survivor Story 
6. Tell 5 adults over the age of 50 the 4 signs of a heart attack and give them a magnet and brochure. Also on the back of the handout, write down the names of the 5 adults that they shared the information with. 

When they return the handout to the meeting on 2/23, they will receive the Brownie Safety badge.  I have registered the troop with the Girl Scout Council and the AHA, so they will be providing each participant with a cute fun patch - probably expected in late March.
