Our meeting today was FULL of fun things! We're getting towards of end of our Wonder of Water Journey, but we also have SO MUCH to do before the end of the year!
Amy and I schedule these meeting for 1 1/2 hours each month, which sounds like plenty of time, but we are always racing to wrap each meeting up.
On today's agenda, we began earning a part of the Snack Badge, had a follow-up meeting with Chaplain Rhonda, practiced "The Water Rap" song for our Journey skit, received penpal letters and wrote sweet notes for the fleece blankets our troop purchased for the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas - Share the Warmth event.
Snack Badge work - During today's meeting, we only had time to work on part of the snack badge steps. We set up at trail mix buffet for the girls: Chex Mix, mini marshmallows, M&M's, candy corn, and luckily, we don't have any food allergies in our troop so we were able to also have an assortment of nuts. We began by talking about each item and whether it was a "healthy" or "non-healthy" item and how much sugar was in each one. The girls furthered the convo by stating other snack items they thought fit into the "healthy" group.
Next, Chaplain Rhonda came back for a follow-up and the girls presented their homework of the word she gave them. It was so good to see how much thought each girl put into it!
Following that, we had some "FUN" stations set up for them to visit.
Amy has a co-worker in NY, who's also a Brownie troop leader, they talked about having the girls exchange Pen Pal letters. Our girls received the 1st letters and they were all super excited to see what their new friends wrote!
And their last station, was a service project.
Our Northeast Council teamed up with Sleep Experts and hosted a "Share the Warmth" event. It was a new or gently used blanket drive benefiting 3 non-profit agencies across DFW: Interfaith Housing Coalition (Dallas), The Samaritan Inn (Collin County), and Presbyterian Night Shelter (Fort Worth).
Our troop purchased 50 new fleece blankets and each girl wrote a sweet little message to pin inside.
